A Construction Cost Estimator plays a vital role in determining the cost associated with construction projects.

Job Summary:

The Construction Cost Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and bills for construction projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and time. The role involves analysing project plans, specifications, and collaborating with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure that all potential costs are factored in for budgeting, bidding and billing purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare Detailed Estimates:
    • Analyse architectural plans, drawings, and specifications to determine project scope and requirements.
    • Develop and prepare detailed estimates and bills for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

Project Assessment:

    • Conduct site visits to evaluate conditions and gather data needed for estimates and billing.
    • Assess the feasibility of a project by identifying potential risks and ensuring all variables are accounted for.

     Cost Analysis:

    • Evaluate historical data to determine accurate estimates for materials and labour.
    • Continuously monitor and track costs, adjusting estimates when necessary.

Collaboration & Communication:

    • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, purchase department and subcontractors to review estimates and ensure accuracy.
    • Communicate estimate results to stakeholders in an understandable format, addressing any concerns or questions.

Cost Preparation:

    • Prepare and submit detailed breakdowns of costs and timelines.
    • Review subcontractor quotes and proposals to ensure all costs are captured in final estimates and bills.
  • Document Management:
    • Maintain records of estimates and project details for future reference.
    • Track changes in design and construction, revising estimates accordingly.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Proven experience in construction cost estimating.
    • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
    • Advanced Excel and mathematical skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Be able to communicate fluently in Maltese and English languages
